Dear Volunteers,
Believe it or not, you are receiving a newsletter this month!
Soon the Season of Lent will begin: February 18th.
As part of the Shrine’s outreach-presence in the community, Jack has spoken with a few charitable organizations, and he writes the following:
During Lent the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will encourage donations (fresh dated, non-perishable) food – or cash donations - to help restock the shelves of three Catholic-run food sources for those in need. There are at least 19 food pantries in the greater La Crosse area with most run by Christian churches of many denominations.
Most are open a few hours twice a week.
We will be working with The Place of Grace, Holmen Area Food Pantry (St. Elizabeth’s in Holmen) and Catholic Charities.
These organizations have been contacted and are delighted that we are pitching in to help.
Kris has offered the use of an attractive “treasure chest” for the lobby collection site.
Cash/check donations will be taken at the front desk.
Media coverage will include the Catholic Times, the Bishop’s radio show, church bulletins and signage in the Pilgrim Center. Our friars may also make mention of this opportunity at Mass.
Thanks for any help you can provide in getting the word out and explaining to pilgrims what we are doing.
-- Jack Socha
Also, as you may know, EWTN has been running the music video “The Salvation Poem” that was filmed in the Shrine Church, and which is sung by Monsignor Joseph Hirsch. Because of people from all over the country seeing that
showing, many ask if we have the recording of the song available in our gift shop. Through the efforts of Jack Socha and DiscMakers, we will soon have an audio CD single available for purchase in our Gift Shop.
Parishes and organizations, as well as individuals, also may like to purchase a number of these CDs to sell at fundraisers for Casa Hogar Orphanage.
As well, with permission of Cardinal Burke, we have uploaded the Shrine’s Orientation DVD onto YouTube, so that more people can watch it and get to know about the Shrine and hopefully plan a pilgrimage here! Spread the word!

Pilgrimage Outreach
Steve Doll has been offered the new position of Pilgrimage Outreach Coordinator for the Shrine.
In response to Cardinal Burke’s wish that the Shrine increase the number of pilgrims to the Shrine, bus groups as well as individuals, this position has been created, and is being funded by a grant from the Knights of Columbus
Supreme.
Not to be confused with the position of Pilgrimage Coordinator, which Greg Marco holds, this position will reach out to bus groups, parishes, organizations, schools, etc., to invite them to plan a pilgrimage/bus tour to the Shrine
this year. He will be contacting both those that have been here once before but haven’t been back in a while, as well as new groups. As well, the outreach will extend beyond the local region.
Please continue to hold in prayer:
Art Barbier
Pat Harnisch-Smith
Virginia Larkin
Terri Levi
Jim Neubauer
Joe O’Keefe
... And all the sick in our families, those in special need, and the numerous prayer requests entrusted to the Shrine from around the world.
Volunteer Information~
Cart Driver Needs
The Shrine is seeking volunteers who would like to drive the cart. Saturdays will become available starting on April 4th. Some Sundays are currently open now for a regular cart driver.
My preference is to have regularly-scheduled volunteers for a particular day. It is best for the Shrine, that a volunteer is not constantly being sought for a particular day.
If you - or if you know someone - who would like to volunteer as a cart driver on Saturdays (every Saturday or a specific one or more each month), please let me know.
Also open is Tuesday mornings at the Front Desk. As well, a few openings in VCC.
Calendar of Events
March 21: Lenten Retreat Day for Women,
sponsored by the Diocese of Winona
March 29: Palm Sunday – Procession
Shrine Closed: Good Friday/Holy Saturday
April 4: Easter Sunday – Mass & Easter Brunch
April 12: Divine Mercy Sunday – 3PM Chaplet
April 28: St. Gianna Molla
May 2: Saint Peregrine Day – 12:15P Mass with
Anointing of the Sick / Veneration of Relic
